Final Project

Just wanted to tell you all how much I appreciate our discussion this past week.  It has really helped me to connect my project to the semester's readings.  We rock!!

That being said, I am struggling on the paper end ... : (

    1. RTI (Response to Intervention). The problem is that I thought the students we were tracking in RTI were mostly minorities, but 70% are white (which goes along with our school's minority status at 30% or so minority). Anyway, I can definitely connect RTI to the readings but I'm finding I'm repeating myself. In the end, the authors really are more similar than they are different. Yes, each focused on different aspects of minority students and teaching but they all think connecting to kids' lives is important, differentiating instruction is important, learning the culture of power should be taught/encouraged, etc. Maybe I need to go workout since I have been at this since 6:00 this morning. My powerpoint is done. Probably over thinking ...

    2. We have far fewer minority students (around 5%)....I don't want to speak for lesley, but the way i understand it is that we need to show what we've learned, and I think the connections you made sound great.
I plan to focus on many of the same things: significance, students as experts, democracy and dialogue, etc.
Our students are what they are...
      my two cents, gk
